Greene Street, the heart of SOHO , is between Broadway and
5th Ave., from Canal Street to Houston Street . Like other streets that
help make up the zeitgeist of SOHO, Greene St. is packed with art
galleries, designer stores, handicrafts and antique stores, d¨¦cor stores,
as well as cafes and restaurants. I love the cast-iron, brick-walled
architecture, and the stone pavements, especially when after rain they are
glossed beautifully with moisture, and reflections. Very different from
the skyscraper image of New York, Greene St. stands in the quieter
district of SOHO, unbothered by the hustle-bustle of the rest of New York
¨C a very beautiful face in my eyes. We spent about 2 hours strolling down
the street in a rainy afternoon, with the enjoyment of its unusual charm.
It's not an ideal day for photographing, but at Greene St., it doesn't
hurt to put aside everything else and just indulge in what it has to
offer.
I used a 50mm lens (80mm equivalent on my Digital Rebel) to compress the
picture a little in most shots here.
